Your Broward County Watering Days
The SFWMD enforces a year-round two-day-per-week landscape irrigation schedule throughout Broward County:
Odd House Numbers
Thursday & Sunday
Examples: 101, 203, 457, 1225
Even House Numbers
Wednesday & Saturday
Examples: 100, 204, 456, 1226
Prohibited Watering Hours
Irrigation is prohibited between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM daily, regardless of your scheduled day. This peak evaporation period wastes water — the restriction conserves resources and saves you money.
Year-Round Rules That Always Apply
- Maximum 2 days per week landscape irrigation (see schedule above)
- No irrigation between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM any day
- New sod, seed, or plants may be watered daily for the first 30 days after installation
- Hand watering with a hose is permitted any time (not limited to 2 days)
- Reclaimed water users may be subject to different schedules — check with your utility
Drought Watch and Drought Warning
During declared drought conditions, SFWMD can tighten restrictions:
- Drought Watch: Voluntary reduction in irrigation use encouraged
- Drought Warning: May reduce to 1 day per week irrigation
- Water Shortage Emergency: May prohibit all landscape irrigation
A Rachio or Hunter Pro-HC smart controller automatically adjusts to new restrictions when they're updated — you never have to manually reprogram during drought periods.
Violations and Fines
SFWMD violations can result in fines starting at $100 per occurrence for first offenses. Repeat violations carry higher fines. Water utilities can also place flow restrictors on violating properties. The fines alone justify the cost of a smart controller that auto-complies.
How Smart Controllers Handle Compliance Automatically
The easiest way to stay compliant is to install a Rachio 3 or Hunter Pro-HC smart controller. Once programmed with your address's schedule:
- Only waters on your permitted days
- Never runs during prohibited 10am–4pm hours
- Skips watering when rain has occurred or is forecast
- Receives updated restriction schedules automatically
- Sends you a notification if it skips a cycle
GroundLogic installs and programs Rachio smart controllers throughout Broward County. Most installations are completed in under 2 hours.
